On Friday the 12th through Sunday the 14th a group of scouts prepping for Troop 79’s upcoming Philmont trip — which will take place in the summer of 2026 — alongside a group of bikers from Troop 79 traveled to Camp Powhatan to spend their weekend.

The Philmont preppers arrived on Friday and set up camp. They spent Saturday morning practicing navigation skills with a map and compass. Later the Philmont crew hiked down the mountain from their campsite to meet the bikers who were just arriving. There, a few of the Philmont preppers joined the bikers for a 6 mile bike ride. In the meantime, those who didn’t join the bikers took a different route back to the campsite, traveling 5.5 miles.

The following day — Sunday — the Philmont crew spent the morning practicing more navigation skills, before hiking 2.5 miles out. The bikers spent the morning biking 10 miles before their departure.
